Ever wondered why muslims loves to burn things? Flags, houses, churches. Read on – it all stems back to their prophet. Mohammad wanted his male followers to pray in his mosque. The hadiths informs us that prayers in the mosques are 25-27 times more valuable to allah than a prayer by yourself in your home.
Be that as it may, some people didn’t want to go to the mosque several times a day. I imagine that the male followers of Muhammad also wanted to spend time with their families (remember – looting, killing, raping and enslaving people can be a very demanding job sometimes).
Not showing up at the mosque for prayer made the prophet angry. Ve-ery angry. Let’s see what happened in the hadiths:
Narrated Abu Huraira: The Prophet said, “No prayer is harder for the hypocrites than the Fajr and the ‘Isha’ prayers and if they knew the reward for these prayers at their respective times, they would certainly present themselves (in the mosques) even if they had to crawl.” The Prophet added, “Certainly I decided to order the Mu’adh-dhin (call-maker) to pronounce Iqama and order a man to lead the prayer and then take a fire flame to burn all those who had not left their houses so far for the prayer along with their houses.” (Sahih Al-Bukhari/ Vol 1:617 & 626)
Mohammad orders one man to announce the prayer, and another man to lead the prayer. Then he starts to burn all those that didn’t leave their house with a fire flame! And if that wasn’t enough, he wanted to set their houses on fire too! According to another hadith, Muhammad told his followers plainly, that he would burn down their house to the ground if they failed to attend the congregation.
Narrated: Usama bin Zaid
“The Messenger of Allah (saw) said: ‘Let men desist from failing to attend the congregation, otherwise I will burn their houses down.’” (Sunan Ibn Majah Chapter No: 6, The Chapters on the Mosques and the Congregations Hadith no: 795)
Some other hadiths give room for interpreting that Muhammad never followed through . Sentences like “I was thinking of”, “No doubt, I intended to”, “By Him in Whose Hand my soul is I was about to order” tells us that this was something he already planned to do. Presumably, people heard of the plan, or saw Muhammad with the torch of fire in his hand, and started running!
Muhammad could have planned this, and then changed his mind. As if that would put one’s mind at rest. Imagine finding out that Muhammad planned to set your house on fire last night, but he changed his mind in the very last minute! Either way, Muhammad acted like a mafioso, and proved that he was not a true prophet. True prophets don’t threaten to kill you if you don’t attend public prayers.
Narrated Abu Huraira (Radi Allah Anhu): Allah’s Apostle (sal-allahu-alleihi-wasallam) said, “‘The reward of a prayer in congregation is twenty five times greater than that of a prayer offered by a person alone. The angels of the night and the angels of the day gather at the time of Fajr prayer.’ ” Abu Huraira then added, “Recite the Holy Book if you wish, for “Indeed, the recitation of the Qur’an in the early dawn (Fajr prayer) is ever witnessed.” (Sahih Bukhari: Volume 1, Book 11, Number 620)
Sahih Bukhari Chapter No: 43, Quarrels
Hadith no: 609

The Prophet (SAW) said, “No doubt, I intended to order somebody to pronounce the Iqama of the (compulsory congregational) prayer and then I would go to the houses of those who do not attend the prayer and burn their houses over them.”

Hadith no: 791
Narrated: Abu Hurairah
“The Messenger of Allah (saw) said: ‘I was thinking of commanding that the call to prayer be given, then I would tell a man to lead the people in prayer, then I would go out with some other men carrying bundles of wood, and go to people who do not attend the prayer, and burn their houses down around them.’”
Sahih Bukhari Chapter No: 11, Call to Prayers (Adhaan)
Hadith no: 617
